How to get an awesome job

All candidates

Please send us the following:

• A coherent, well-written, brief email with the information and attachments appropriate to your category (below).
• Crystal-clear, concise, standard written English. We believe clear writing (and coding) comes from clear thinking. We write code and comments so clearly that a non-technical manager can understand them. This is imperative.
• Your résumé, presented in any logical format.
• At least two relevant critical comments about either our messaging or measurement demonstrations. You may comment on the design, code, or documentation. If you need more information, ask for it; questions are just as important as answers.
• Clear and unambiguous evidence that you have read and understood what we're asking for.

If you know nothing about programming

You may have noticed that none of the top people at Inner Drive Technology has a computer-science degree. We have art, music, history, and law degrees; but not one single CS or IS class taken in 108 semesters of higher education. Think about that as you read more.

Our primary question will be: can you learn programming? We think anyone who can write clearly and think clearly can learn to design software clearly. So send us:

• A brief note about why you want to become a software developer. Also explain what you've learned so far that would make you good at it.
• An explanation of a complex problem and how you solved it.

If you already know something about programming

In order to get an initial sense of your abilities, we need the following:

• Competence in your main programming language and an eagerness to learn C#. We believe that if you know the concepts, you can learn the syntax. But remember: the stronger you are in C#, the more we can pay you.
• A solid understanding of object-oriented development, whether from C#, Java, Smalltalk, or C++. We want to say, "Use an abstract factory in the mediator class to instantiate an arbitrary façade" without having to explain it.
• One or more code samples that you think best shows your ability to write object-oriented, well-commented, easy-to-read software.
